How to create a data-driven culture?
To create a data-driven culture is necessary and mandatory: initiate it, understand it, and do all employees make data-driven decisions.
Collect information
We need to collect every data entry in the company. All the information we have, we must store and process it.
Measure everything
Here we have to measure all the data we collect. We are understanding if we have one thousand or one million records, or if information grows faster than others.
Relevant and accurate data
This is knowing what is the most important data, what is the better information that we have and how it will work for us. For example, if you work with money, you need much precision with de quantities or if you work in a bus station, maybe you must be careful with the time of departures.
Standardize information
It applies when the system works on many kind of the same data, It is like when system manages money in different countries, then you must define a standard to be able to manage the quantities (dollars, pesos, etc)
Create hypotheses
Always we need to start with a question or supposition, because it will be the first step to approach the subject. For example, it is not correct to start with “I want to analyze the sales”, instead is easier make a question or assumption like “In Christmas the people give many gifts, so between november and december we will have a lot of sales”
Insights and actions
As you have a hypothesis, it will be easier to have insights and take actions. Imagine the previous hypothesis, you will be able to have insights and thus, you will have an opportunity to create a production and sales plan to the date you will need it.
Automate
You must be able to create a single process one time and then be able to replicate when you need it.
...
Now, all our decisions will be data-driven. As you saw, it is a complete process to carry out this new culture.
Let’s start and do it.
